The R system is a mature, freely available, and widely used “language and environment for statistical computing and graphics”, based upon the award-winning S language developed by John Chambers. It combines modern graphical displays of data, a convenient and easy to learn programming language, and an extremely wide variety of statistical tools, to provide a tool that is both easy to use and powerful. While R is very widely used, it is relatively little-known in the physics community. In this talk, I will present some of the features of R that have proven useful in the everyday data analysis.
