Abstract: In an environment of increased budget pressure and cost awareness, it's becoming more important than ever to ensure that IT investments are closely aligned with strategic goals and objectives, and that large computing projects are delivered in manner that ensures that desired benefits are realized in a timely way. At Fermilab, we are in the process of implementing a number of IT Governance initiatives, including project portfolio management and the implementation of standardized IT project management processes, templates and methodologies. This session will describe how we are tailoring industry best practices and standards such as PMBOK to our laboratory's environment and culture. We will review the processes, templates, and tools we are developing to implement project portfolio management. We will also review the processes, templates, and methodology we are developing to improve the execution of our larger IT projects, as well as our strategy for gaining broader adoption of these tools and lessons learned to date.
